Firsdown Music Fayre was the originally the brainchild of Prof Graham Wright of Firs Road who pulled together a team of helpers and experts in various fields to plan an amazingly complex Music Extravaganza.

Richard George gave the use of his field to hold the event and did much of the preparation and collection of materials. The original idea of the day was to stage an event to try and bring residents of Firsdown together as a community and have a family event.

The Fayre was enjoyed by an audience of over 400 and some 100+ helpers and entertainers provide a variety of services including a First Aid post with a GP on tap, a place for lost children, a fire point and that was all in one tent. The stage was nearly 60 feet long to accommodate two full groups at a time, as one performance finished on one the second started. All of the sound was captured by 24 microphones patched into a 3500 watt PA system operated by Pat Lynch musical partner of Yan Webber who jointly supplied this and other equipment via Music 4 Fun. Music 4 Fun is a group (including George Mather from Firsdown) who meet each month at the Duck Inn in Laverstock.

There were 16 different bands and soloist who came to perform ranging from Ska, Heavy Metal and Rock to a classical string quartet - many of them were local people.  All the performers gave their services free of charge and in turn no charge was made to anyone coming to the event.

The weather held out all day luckily and the Bar and Catering Van was so busy that they both sold out.  People brought picnics, chairs and rugs and it was great to see people of all ages mixing together, having a great time and enjoying the music.

Many people worked long and hard to make this event such a success and Firsdown owes them a vote of thanks.
The feedback has been totally positive and everyone is hoping that this may be an annual performance.
